Nestled discreetly between a strip club and a disco in bustling Portimao, Safari Bistro is a family-run oasis of authenticity and warmth.

Owners Francisco and Margarida Coutinho, along with talented head chef Beto, have created a bohemian haven that offers respite from the touristy chaos.

As you step inside, you're enveloped in a cozy ambiance, with the soothing sounds of Federico Aubele's music from Argentina and a breathtaking sea view. Although Safari Bistro's narrow frontage might trick the eye, it opens up to reveal an unexpectedly deep interior with charming rooms. The real treat is the intimate back terrace with a sea view – a true gem.

Francisco, the owner, adds a personal touch with warm chats and genuine interest in his guests. But the star here is the food. Safari Bistro excels in delivering honest, flavorful dishes in just the right portions.

Their menu is an impressive mix of options, well-balanced with starters, salads, 6 fish dishes, 6 meat dishes, and an impressive selection of 6 vegan dishes.

Our culinary journey began with delightful starters: vegetable soup (€4), South American-style ceviche (€7.50), and garlic-infused mushrooms (€6.50).

Moving on to mains, we savored seitan steak with pepper sauce (€16), tofu breseado (a delightful surprise at €14), and a Beyond burger with vegan cheese (€16). Each dish showcased creativity and flavor.

It's refreshing to see that Francisco, despite not being entirely vegan himself, recognizes the importance of catering to all dietary preferences and ensures that vegans have ample choices, unlike many other restaurants that offer only one monotonous vegan option.
