Upon Angels is located in Intendente, an upcoming Lisbon neighborhood full of small bars, street art and an authentic local vibe. For us, it’s perfect: you’re right in the heart of the city, without paying Chiado prices. And Chiado itself? Just a relaxed 1.7 km walk – about 30 minutes. Walking through Lisbon never feels like a punishment, and if your feet start complaining, an Uber brings you back for around five euros.
First Impression
The outside of the building instantly reminded me of the red-light windows from my student days in Groningen—narrow windows, red glow… a bit cheeky. It actually sets the tone perfectly for the playful concept behind the hotel. Once inside, the vibe shifts into something warm, stylish and modern. The lobby feels inviting, the bar is lively, and the whole atmosphere makes you want to stay.
ANGELS BAR – The soul of the hotel
The Angels Bar is the beating heart of the property. Sometimes there’s live music, sometimes small performances, but always a great vibe. It’s the kind of place where conversations start naturally, where strangers connect, and where the night somehow stretches longer than expected. A mix of glamour, burlesque-inspired details and a sassy attitude fits the hotel’s bold identity. This is where cocktails are shared and stories are born.

Upon Angels offers 46 creative studios, all equipped with air conditioning, minibar and room service. These are not typical hotel rooms—they’re colourful, playful spaces full of textures, tones and bold details. A bit eccentric, a bit daring, and designed to spark the senses.

It’s an 18+ hotel, and that freedom shows everywhere: a little naughty, a little daring, with that “anything can happen” feeling you might know from Ushuaïa Ibiza—just in a smaller, boutique setting.
Price & Value
One of the best surprises: the price. Rooms start from €100 per night and suites from €239. For a freshly renovated hotel with this quality, central location and original concept, it’s fantastic value. The fact that it’s not exactly in Chiado is actually a plus: same city, more charm, half the price.
Breakfast & Facilities
Breakfast is a small but pleasant buffet, also open to non-guests for €15 per person. In the courtyard you’ll find a small but cosy pool—perfect for cooling off or relaxing after a long walk through the city.
