Convento do Espinheiro, Historic Hotel & Spa in Évora is a hidden gem. This former monastery turned hotel has beautifully preserved its historical architecture and ambiance.
The fact that they've maintained the original chapel is truly remarkable. I, as a son of an architect, am always impressed by how well they blend new hotel rooms seamlessly into the existing structure.
With its 5-star rating and rooms starting at €170, this hotel offers a luxurious experience just a short drive from the enchanting city of Évora.
The staff is exceptional, and the facilities are top-notch. Don't miss the opportunity to explore the history during the guided tour and indulge in the complimentary wine tasting in the cellar.
The restoration work on the ancient stones is respectful and in line with the original design, giving you a glimpse into the past. The hotel also caters to families with various dining options and large pools, making it an ideal destination for relaxation and exploration. Our stay in one of the "new" rooms with a lovely terrace overlooking the garden was delightful, and the friendly staff made our experience even better.
Convento do Espinheiro is a peaceful retreat, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit. This amazing transformation of an old convent into a hotel is a testament to Portugal's architectural prowess and preservation of its rich history. Plus, the fact that they welcome pets is a bonus not often found in Portugal. Highly recommended!
