After years of renovation and expansion, Tavira finally has a brand-new luxury address: Palácio Hotel Tavira. Open for just two weeks, this boutique hotel already feels like a fantastic addition to the city. Once a private residence – a small palace – it has been transformed into a stylish retreat with 20 rooms in the main building and another 16 in the garden wing.
From the very first moment, you feel at home. General Manager Patrícia Correia, with 32 years of experience, runs the hotel with elegance and professionalism. And it shows: the staff are exceptionally welcoming and go out of their way to make your stay memorable. Guests are greeted with complimentary water and wine in the room, and our son Elyas even received a stuffed toy on arrival – a rare and heartwarming touch. At check-in, you also receive a curated list of recommended restaurants and things to do in Tavira, which makes exploring the city effortless.
The interior is understated yet elegant: terracotta, almond green, ochre, and cream tones create a warm Mediterranean feel. A clear investment has been made in quality: marble, artwork, and designer furniture give the property a refined character. From the rooftop, the view over Tavira is breathtaking. It all feels intimate and chic – ideal for a romantic getaway. Families may find it less suitable, as there’s no large pool and the overall atmosphere is focused on peace and style.
The in-house restaurant Mirsal is perhaps the hotel’s greatest asset. With a talented chef at the helm, the menu is creative and refined – edging towards Michelin-level dining. Breakfast is equally impressive: an abundant buffet with fresh produce, paired with à la carte options. Vegan and gluten-free choices are plentiful, making it inclusive for all guests. Dinner offers fine dining in an elegant setting, while the bar serves colorful cocktails to end the evening in style.
Beyond dining, Palácio Hotel Tavira offers a boutique wellness experience, including massages and a plunge pool – perfect after a day of exploring Tavira’s cobbled streets. However, for a full five-star feel, some facilities are missing: there is no sauna, Turkish bath, or swimming pool. Adding these would elevate the guest experience even further.
The hotel has just opened, and understandably a few details still need refining. There is currently no turndown service, and the lack of a designated parking space in front of the hotel makes arrival by car complicated – guests risk blocking the street while unloading luggage. A valet service would be a welcome solution. In addition, adding a few more touches of grandeur would highlight the beauty of this historic building.
Palácio Hotel Tavira is a stunning new boutique hotel with the potential to become one of the Algarve’s finest. The hospitality, the staff, and the dining experience are already outstanding. Yes, a few things are still missing, but with the expertise of Patrícia Correia and her passionate team, it’s clear that this hotel is on the right track.
For couples looking for romance, design, and gastronomy, this is an absolute gem. Families may prefer a seaside resort with larger pools, like Marina Hotel, but for a stylish city escape, Palácio Hotel Tavira is a perfect choice.
A heartfelt thank you to the team for your warmth, kindness, and smiles. We will gladly return!
