Bistro Ysconderijo in São Brás de Alportel is a hidden gem in the Algarve that you definitely should discover. Although we usually prefer restaurants along the coast, this trip to the mountains was well worth it.

The restaurant is just a 20-minute drive from Almancil/Loule and 25 minutes from Faro, so it's not far away at all, despite the winding roads. São Brás de Alportel itself is a beautiful town at an elevation of 240 meters, with picturesque streets and traditional Portuguese architecture that will enchant you.

Bistro Ysconderijo is located in a charming old building and is tastefully decorated with a reception area, a bar, and two dining rooms separated by beautiful stone arches. The staff is exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Great owners, Dina Cadete and chef Sílvio Viegas.

As for the food, the menu is exquisite and original. Despite the restaurant's upscale ambiance, the prices are surprisingly reasonable.

Soup for only 4 euros, appetizers like mushroom vol-au-vent, spring rolls, and vegan beet carpaccio for 8 euros, and delicious main courses like salmon, tuna, and vegan Phad Thai for 19 euros. Even the luxurious desserts, like Eton Mess, are quite affordable at 7 euros. Don't forget to try the delightful house wine from the Douro, priced at only 16 euros per bottle.

Although it may take a bit of time for the food to be served, the wait is definitely worth it. The plates are true works of art, and the flavors are fantastic.

Please note that they only accept cash payments, but luckily, there is an ATM just around the corner. In summary, Bistro Ysconderijo is one of the nicest restaurants in the Algarve, perfect for a romantic dinner with your loved one or a cozy evening with friends. You won't regret it.
