The Algarve in southern Portugal is one of Europe’s top destinations. With more than 300 days of sunshine per year, golden beaches, and charming towns, the real question isn’t if you should go, but when is the best time to visit the Algarve.

Underrated, but magical.
Weather: 20–25°C, warm sea until November.
Why go:
👉 Autumn offers the best of both worlds: summer vibes with fewer people.
Forget grey European winters – here, it’s different.
Weather: 16–18°C, sunny days. You can enjoy coffee or lunch on a terrace in your T-shirt. Yes, even in January.
Why go:
👉 Winter is for relaxation, long stays, and enjoying the sun.
Is the Algarve a year-round destination?
Yes! With 300 days of sunshine per year, it’s always worth visiting.
When is the cheapest time to visit?
Winter and shoulder seasons. You’ll find affordable flights, holiday homes, and hotels.
Are restaurants open in winter?
Some of the 5,000 restaurants close for a few weeks, but plenty stay open. Local taverns, hotel restaurants, and most Indian restaurants (open 365 days a year) welcome you all winter.
Is the Algarve good for families?
Absolutely. Summer has waterparks and safe beaches; spring and autumn are cooler and less crowded.
When is the best time for golf in the Algarve?
Spring and autumn – mild weather, quiet courses.
Personally, I love the Algarve most in spring and autumn. Nature is at its best, there’s more space to breathe, and you still enjoy plenty of sunshine. Summer is fun but hot and busy, while winter is perfect for relaxation and great deals.
Whether you go for the sunny summer, the peaceful winter, the flowering spring, or the warm autumn, the Algarve has something unique to offer.
One thing is certain: with 300 days of sunshine per year, the Algarve never disappoints.
