Restaurant Review: The Gorkha, Nepalese Foodcafe
What a discovery! A friend tipped me off about this small and simple restaurant in Vilamoura, with only two tables on the terrace and two tables inside, plus a mini kitchen and bar. 🌟
Location and Atmosphere
The Gorkha is just 200 meters from the harbor of Vilamoura, nestled in one of the charming streets filled with small restaurants and massage studios.
The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The service is sweet and attentive, and the owner is always willing to explain the dishes and offer suggestions.
Two girls sitting in the sun peeling 100 garlic cloves—a beautiful sight that highlights the authentic atmosphere of the restaurant.
Menu and Prices
The menu features delicious and affordable Nepalese dishes such as Padadam (€2), Bhatmas Sedeko (€6), Peanut Sadheka (€6), Aal Jeera (€6), Onion Bhaji (€7), Veg Chowmein (€6).
Additionally, The Gorkha offers affordable cocktails and wines like Gin Tonic (€6.50), Sex on the Beach (€7.50), and a delicious bottle of Monte Velho wine (€13).
Our Dining Experience
We ordered various small dishes, which were brought out as soon as they were ready. We thoroughly enjoyed every bite!
Chef Sagar is amazing; the dishes are perfectly balanced with spices and always fresh. Exquisite Nepalese food. 🍲
Opening Hours
The restaurant is open every day from 4 PM to 2 AM, perfect for a cocktail, late lunch, or early dinner, especially since many Portuguese restaurants are closed during these times.
Nepalese Cuisine vs. Indian Cuisine
- Nepalese food is milder and less spiced.
- Nepalese dishes often use simple ingredients like lentils, rice, and vegetables.
- Nepalese cuisine offers more vegan options, without milk or cheese, such as dal bhat.
Conclusion
The Gorkha is a small and simple Nepalese restaurant with top-notch food at a low price. The service is sweet and friendly. We will definitely return. Highly recommended place, small but cozy. 🌟
Tip for the Owner
Clearly indicate allergies on the menu so guests feel safe. This is also a legal requirement in Portugal.
